Preconception Health:  Lessons Throughout a Lifetime is a free conference  provided by a new grant from Department of Health and Senior Services, called Access To Care Program. The purpose of the conference is to expand the knowledge base of professionals who work with women and their families. This program will explore the promotion of health throughout the lifespan.

This program is intended for physicians, nurses, social workers, and other professionals, working with women and

children in a variety of settings. The conference is free but preregistration is required.

Pregnant Pause Events in New Jersey 2010 Sponsored by ARC

The Arc of New Jersey is sponsoring several Pregnant Pause events in New Jersey this year. A Pregnant Pause event is a fun filled educational event. Pregnant Pause events are generally held at participating restaurants, community, and health centers across NJ and last several hours. These events  set in a comfortable and safe environment and are packed with informative FASD education.

They feature knowledgeable speakers on FASD, showcase varied entertainment, administer relevant awards, and share generous donations and doorprizes from businesses like baby stores and local retailers who cater to expectant others. In addition, local restaurant ‘mixologists’ are present and create alcohol-free drinks for attendees while the local press takes coverage of the community events.

Adolescent Mental Health Challenges Conference in New Jersey

There will be an informative conference , Adolescent Mental Health Challenges: from Angst to Calamity in New Jersey on Wednesday, June 30, 2010 8:00 am ? 4:15 pm.

This  conference will provide insight into the spectrum of behaviors that teens exhibit in response to both internal and external shifts that occur in their lives.  The goal of the conference is to alert clinicians, educators and family members to the signs that indicate a young person has passed the stage of angst and may be about to harm themselves or others.

Powerful Resource for Deaf and Hard of Hearing Community With Substance Abuse

The Recovery Network for the Deaf, Hard of Hearing and Hearing Loss provides substance abuse assessment, treatment, case management, mobile substance abuse assessment and treatment, advocacy, communication access service, 12 step meetings in American Sign Language, Aftercare Service and education for the deaf, hard of hearing and hearing loss community about the influence of addiction at the following locations in New Jersey (and mobile access is available as well):

  • Catholic Charities at 321 Central Avenue in Newark NJ 07103
  • Center for Family Services at 108 Somerdale Road in Voorhees, NJ  08043

Registered interpreters are available to provide:  American Sign Language, oral or Tactile Interpreting, Signed English and Spanish Sign Language as are Assistive Listening Devices and Communication Access Realtime Translation (CART).
