Report Details Drug And Alcohol Use By Pregnant Women

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) recently
released a report on alcohol and drug use by pregnant women. The rate of alcohol
use by pregnant Caucasian and African American women was about 12%, higher than
Hispanic women with 7%.

Alcohol Consumption During Pregnancy; Prevalence and Provider Assessment 

Recent study from Co-Chair of the Maryland FASD Coalition, Dr. Diana
Cheng and her colleagues at the Center for Maternal and Child Health,
Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene indicate that nearly 8%
of mothers from Maryland reported consuming alcohol during the last 3
months of pregnancy.

guest speaker will be Michael Mullenix of Seeking Equality, Empowerment,
and Community for People with Developmental Disabilities (SEEC).  Mr.
Mullenix will be speaking on "Using Technology to Increase Independence
and Achievements at Home, in the Workplace, and in the Community".
