Thousands of women are treated for in our health clinics and/or addiction treatment centers across the U.S., yet few are counseled on reproductive health or on the effects of alcohol/other drugs on the developing fetus. This show will provide an overview about the lifelong consequences of fetal alcohol spectrum disorders (FASD). Issues of denial and shame frequently experienced by birth mothers and their families will be discussed. Suggestions for engaging women and their families into recovery will be explored. Participants will receive information about the National Organization on Fetal Alcohol Syndrome (NOFAS).
